The CH07 Shell Chair is designed by Danish architect and designer Hans J. Wegner, who is considered to be one of the pioneering furniture designers of the 20th century. It's no wonder that the CH07 Shell Chair is regarded as an architectural masterpiece.
When Hans J. Wegner unveiled the design of the CH07 Shell Chair in 1963, some loved the edgy look, but the general public didn't want to accept his bold expression. However, when Carl Hansen & Søn reintroduced the Shell Armchair in 1998, it immediately won the admiration of the public.
The lightness of this design is achieved through its wing-like lines and the arches of its legs. The curved frames of the seat and back of the chair are made of curved and upholstered plywood , picking up the user with generous comfort. The front legs are made of one piece of sheet metal and the rear leg of another, resulting in a unique, stable and beautiful seat.
Hans J. Wegner preferred to work in solid wood, but occasionally explored the use of bent plywood, something quite difficult that could be realized thanks to Wegner's great experience in cabinetmaking and architecture.
In short, the Shell chair is a clear symbol of Wegner's belief that a chair should not have a backside, but be beautiful from all angles.
